Addiction ~ Blog series introduction
Good morning Planet Famers!
I hope you are all having a good start to your week!
First, I am not even going to bother apologizing at this point for the late blog, because it seems that Monday or Tuesday morning is a far more achievable deadline! haha At this point, I guess I am going to go with: "Try to post a new blog by Sunday, but the actual deadline may very depending on the current situation." How's that for a political answer? A deadline, that doesn't actually mean anything! HAHA maybe I have a future career in politics! Nah...I'm too honest... I'd never get elected...
OK, now that's out of the way!
I've gone back and forth since I started blogging again, about whether I would bring up the topics of addiction, mental health, treatment, or basically anything dealing directly with what I do for a living. As most of you know, and if you don't...do you live under a rock? lol I own and founded JDS Consulting Inc. We are a relatively small insurance billing and consulting company that specializes in behavioral health. That description doesn't really do justice to what it is we do, as we really are unique. We tend to be...extremely liberal in our use of the word "consulting". Basically, we try to be a "one stop shop" for behavioral health providers when it comes to anything insurance, accreditation, state, or Federal that is related to providers being able to provide care and get paid.
I don't want this blog to sound like a commercial, or self promotion, so if you have questions or would like more information, just send me a quick email message. I'll gladly go into more detail there.
I got into this industry, which I absolutely love (I know...crazy right?!), through a series of...unexpected twists and turns in my life. Ranging from my own personal struggles, 7-years-4-months-24-days insane and sober lol, and what I like to consider some of the most eclectic, random, and COMPLETELY unexpected "God moments" you could ever imagine. I never in a million years expected to be where I am, doing what I am doing, with my life! Yet I can't imagine my life any other way.
So what changed my mind. Well, a couple blogs back, I posted a blog that talked about the passing of a friend. He lost his battle with his disease, his addiction, his demons. He was a bright, charismatic, beautiful soul, who just happened to have an illness, and it cost him his life. This past weekend, one of my dearest friends lost the person he loved to this same illness. Several people I know, are struggling with this illness as I write this. It's for those people, that I have decided to begin a series of blogs related to my thoughts, opinions, and beliefs on addiction.
I don't know how many parts this series will have. I don't have a set outline, or even a clear vision about where I wish to go with this. What I do know, is that I have a need to start a dialogue. I have to my part to start a conversation, to get people to think about addiction and mental health in different ways. I believe our silence, our lack of discussion, keeps these topics taboo...and in doing so, we are simply continuing the cycle. I may not post every week on addiction, as the topic can often be extremely heavy, but I am going to try and start a conversation.
What I ask from all of you, is to remember the rules of this blog. This can be a hot button topic, and I welcome debate, but I will not tolerate personal attacks. I also ask for your involvement. If you have a question, or would like me to cover a specific topic in addiction and mental health, please message me. I really want this to be an engaging series, and the only way to do that, is if you engage with me!
I look forward to my next blog posting, where we can start getting into the topics of addiction and mental health. I hope you will all come along with me on this journey!
Until next week Famers!
